The Brook
Paul Quail FMGP
Antique glass, painted, enamelled and silverstained. The panel is based on Edward Thomas"s poem, The Brook, where he watches a child paddling, hears the blackbird and thrush singing unseen from oak and hazel, smells the honey scented mugwort and watches a butterfly on a stone often kicked by passing carthorses. I have woven all these elements into my design. Most of my work is for churches and can be either figurative or abstract as the occasion demands. I like to give much thought to the biblical, theological and symbolic aspects. I use the traditional technique of lead and mouthblown glass, painted and stained with some aciding and enamels.
