Water and Fire

Water and Fire

Jacobus Boone

Antique glass, acid etched, painted and silverstained. My idea, expressing these ancient Elements in bold Chinese characters, became a huge wave, (after Hokusai), with an erupting Fuji-san nearby and the ideograph, "Water and Fire cannot co-exist". Francis of Assisi refers to Brother Fire and Sister Water" ...possibly, but certainly no love is lost between the two. Creating harmonious pictures that are aesthetically pleasing and a fairly accurate expression of my idea presents a great challenge. Beginning with the quest for a concept, developing it through research and contemplation, finally translating the resulting drawing into glass carries as reward, a great sense of profound satisfaction.
